Rain Ross is an accomplished 
teacher, choreographer, and
performer.    In her teaching, she is
recognized for creating a space for
dancers to come to a greater
understanding about their body and
their dancing.  She encourages taking
risks, as long as they are based in
knowledge of physicality. 

 Ross has been recognized for her
choreography through awards and
commissions of her work, such as a
dance installment for the Seattle Art
Museum’s opening of the Isamu
Noguchi exhibit.  Her choreography is
engaging and diverse, and utilizes
dancers in ways that both pushes
them to new levels and highlights their
strengths. 

 In performance, one can see that
Ross values both the contemporary
and the classical within dance, for she
is able to embody both aspects, either
separately or in fusion.  She has
performed with ballet and contemporary companies, including The Playhouse Dance Company in South Africa, and has worked with such choreographers as Toni Pimble, David Dorfman, Wade Madsen, Hannah Wiley, and Deanna Carter. 

Ross received her MFA in Dance from the University of Iowa and her BA in Dance and English from Mount Holyoke College. She founded and directed Lehua Dance Theatre, a non-profit contemporary repertory dance company based in Seattle, for which she was also resident choreographer.  She has lived and danced in Hawaii, England, New York, South Africa, and Seattle, amongst other places.

Rain has received various grants for her work as a dancer and choreographer, including the Amy Award for Emerging Artists and the Iowa Arts Fellowship. She is currently a faculty member at the Richard Stockton College of New Jersey and has previously taught at the University of Iowa, Mount Holyoke College, Oakland University, and Interlochen Arts Camp, as well as various dance studios.
