Teaching

Rain Ross creates a class that gives students the opportunity to gain autonomy over their own learning. Both ballet and modern classes incorporate kinesiological principles, giving students a greater internal awareness of their own bodies. The approach to class emphasizes the individual dancer's personal understanding of the technique and the further development of that awareness.
Her contemporary class is influenced by the foundational modern techniques allowing exploration of concepts on alignment, spiral curves, articulation of the limbs and torso, and commitment to movement choices. Current trends and movement interests also feed the class; such concepts include release of weight, pedestrian ease while maintaining physical alertness and readiness, and specificity of movement initiation.
Her ballet class follows the traditional structure while integrating contemporary approaches to the technique. The philosophical foundation of each class is the development of a dancer with a strong foundation who can then meet a variety of choreographic demands.
